Norman, a young historian, has moved from New York to Boston with his wife Lucy and young son Bob to continue certain research. His predecessor committed suicide there. Norman rents a house that the agent Laura arranges for him. Since the death of Peterson, who previously lived there, the house has had a bad reputation. Not least because over a hundred years ago a certain Dr. Freudenstein lived there and really scary things have happened since then. Little Bob repeats every day that he knows and meets a little girl, but no one has ever seen her. And something seems to be lurking in the basement of the house!
