They find refuge in an old, dark house that belongs to the Femm family. The residents are uncomfortable with the three stranded people, but they have to spend a night there, willy-nilly...

The great Boris Karloff can be seen here in his first leading role alongside Charles Laughton. The Lexicon of International Film judged: A horror comedy that is one of the great classics of the genre: a fireworks display of dramatic masterpieces. The film was also shown on television under the title The House of Horrors.
