First ever vinyl edition of the soundtrack of “Zeder”, one of the best Italian thriller/horror films ever!

The author of the music is Riz Ortolani (“Mondo Cane” and “Cannibal Holocaust” stand out among his many works), here in his second collaboration with the director Pupi Avati: a soundtrack that skillfully mixes electronics and symphonic music, in this case an often repetitive, hypnotic and pressing orchestral string section, which reflects the protagonist’s arrogance in continuing his research, at any cost. There is no shortage of sunny themes with a funk and requiem pace, suspended pieces full of tension and sudden changes of atmosphere, melancholic melodies and anguished soundscapes.

“Zeder” is now a cult film, released in theaters in 1983, at a time when almost no one dared to make zombie films anymore. Pupi Avati goes against the grain, and creates an atmospheric horror film set on a sunny Riviera Romagnola, a destination for carefree summer vacations, which tells of the discovery of ancient experiments by researcher Paolo Zeder on special K terrains, which allow those buried there to return from the afterlife. Avati's stylistic approach, in which tension and fear arise from the narrated situations and not from bloody scenes of strong visual impact, finds a perfect match here in the music composed by maestro Riz Ortolani.
